How to Install an eSIM on iPhone (Step-by-Step)

March 2, 2026

Installing an eSIM profile on an iPhone

Quick summary

After purchase, open the eSIM install sheet from your order, scan the QR on iPhone, name the line Travel, and set it as your cellular data line when you land.

Before you start

Use an unlocked iPhone that supports eSIM (iPhone XS and newer in most markets). Connect to Wi‑Fi. Have your eSIM KH order email or order history open with the QR code or activation details ready.

  • iOS updated to a recent version
  • Stable Wi‑Fi (not flaky airport captive portals if avoidable)
  • Do not delete the eSIM after install unless you intend to reinstall

Install steps on iPhone

Go to Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM / Add Cellular Plan. Choose Use QR Code and scan the code from your eSIM KH receipt. Follow on-screen prompts until the plan appears under Cellular Plans.

Label the new line “Travel” so you can tell it apart from Primary. Leave Primary as your default voice line if you still want home-number calls.

When you arrive at your destination

Open Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data and select the Travel eSIM. Enable Data Roaming for the travel line only. Turn off Data Roaming on your Primary line.

If data does not attach within a few minutes, toggle Airplane Mode, confirm the correct APN if provided, or restart the phone.

Common mistakes to avoid

Installing twice from the same QR can fail because many profiles are single-use. Installing only after you land without Wi‑Fi also causes friction—install at home when possible.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Install on Wi‑Fi before departure. Many plans start when the eSIM first connects in the covered country—check your plan details on the product page.

Recommended next step

Browse prepaid travel eSIM plans and install before you fly.
